The Great Wall at Badaling
The Great Wall at Badaling is by far the most visited (and crowded) section of the Great Wall of China. It is situated only 80 km northwest of Beijing, and easily accessible by the recently completed Badaling Expressway.
Badaling has undergone heavy restoration, and in 1957 it was the first section of the wall to open to tourists. Now visited annually by millions, the immediate area has seen significant development, including hotels, restaurants, and a cable car.
This trip can be combined with a visit to the Ming Tombs, or, for those of you with an interest in architecture, with a tour of the Commune by the Great Wall, managed by Kempinski.
